This book, about the British colonists who disappeared after settling
in the new world in 1587, is the third in the Unsolved Mystery
From History series. Each of the books involves quite a bit of
research, but this one was particularly difficult since the story
is so rooted in US history both prior to the colony disappearing
and after. The cast of characters is much larger than in the previous
books, The Mary Celeste and The
Wolf Girls. At one point during the editing process of Roanoke,
our editor, Jessica Schulte, told us (and she was right) that
the narrative was too confusing. I actually sat on my living room
floor and cut the manuscript into sentences and reordered the
entire thing to make the story clear. I especially love the picture
of the skeletons. But, I'm funny like that.
The next book in the series is The Salem Witch Trials and number five which is about Amelia Earhart.
